edgy lace - jason wu fall 2011

who doesn't love lace? it's a beautiful fabric. and so much can be done with it...it can dyed to cool, striking colors...layered ontop of heavier fabrics for a whole 'nother dimension....dazzled up with intricate beading and sequin work...it's manipulations are endless. lace has a unique, specific look, but can be used in so many different ways. and one way that i really like it, is when it's edgy and dark. a far cry from how we usually love the fabric, in all its romantic-lovely-airy-glory, edgy lace is bold and powerful. i think jason wu presented that idea wonderfully in his fall 2011 rtw collection.

marchesa (finally!) @ NYFW fall 2011

i've been waiting and waiting to see marchesa's collection, and it's finally up on style.com today. and as usual, it was gorgeous....with glamour, glitz, and all-out girl power.

there was tulle, there was lace, there were drapes, and there were corsets...all combined with lots of "sheer" pleasure.

so very beautiful, romantic, and princess-like. for me, marchesa is "pretty" defined.

shoes + more at NY fashion week, fall 2011

the shows and the new designs at any fashion week are, of course, the real stars, but the editors shine pretty bright, too. especially their shoes! imagine eye-catching footwear to get to and from the shows...it would definitely put an extra pep in my step.

but back to the shows -- i've been browsing through the collections on style.com, and i have many loves & likes. lots of cozy-furry-layering happening, which really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. it looks so good and is perfect for fall. hope you're enjoying seeing all the looks from NY fashion week, fall 2011, as much as me.

after all the madness calms, and all the coverage is done, we'll get to see what the strongest trends were...and how they are interpreted by some great style-setters.

that's when the real fun begins!

ski style

going on a skiing trip this weekend, so of course, i was surfing around the web for stylish & functional outfits to wear on the slopes. i'm still sort of lost, and going to just layer everything i own onto myself, but it's fun to look and be inspired by these images. turns out, victoria beckham looks the "posh"-est of them all, with her variety of ski looks.

also have to include the always stylish kate moss, in her glam ski bunny attire -- complete with a luxurious fur hat and big bold hollywood shades.

food.

i usually make the same thing over and over again, so where else to look for ideas but food porn daily? exciting name, i know, but even more exciting images. check out this drool-worthy picture of "pistachio, chorizo, and chipotle crusted mahi w/ apple-chorizo braised red cabbage & carrot moroccan pancakes." how good, good, goooood does that sound? also sounds hard to make. but hey, that's inspiration for ya.

i also "tweeted" about food today -- a delicious (and easy) recipe of brie, apple, and arugula quesadillas, from the atlantis home blog. you can follow me at twitter.com/greychiffon.

masaba gupta saris

talk about funky fresh -- masaba gupta saris definitely have a quirky cool style. "different" doesn't even seem to cut it. while i love the fun approach to a traditional sari, i'm not sure if i'm absolutely loving it yet. i do like once-upon-a-time actress mandira bedi's sari -- the colors, stripes, the way it drapes. it's very modern. sonam kapoor's look is what i'm iffy on. she always has fun with fashion, which makes her pictures a treat to see, so i do applaud her for that. but the hand print sari, the ultra sheer drape, and the black blouse going up a little too high in the middle, is just not working for me. something looks off. she still looks great though -- she is working the bengali-style big bindi, traditional earrings, and clean, elegant hair.

whether it works for you or not, this is a cool young designer to watch.

*update -- oh my, is ms. bedi is wearing a bikini top as a blouse? let's just say that's not the best idea. good thing she has it covered up with the sari drape.

the roitfelds - mom and daughter style

how cute (and hot) is this mom and daughter combo? of course, we wouldn't expect anything less from the past editor-in-chief of french vogue and her talented model daughter. these two are always perfectly turned out, without ever looking too perfect -- which is part of that hard to achieve french charm. this picture is especially fun because of the way they have coordinated with eachother -- check out julia's animal print pumps slightly reflecting mom carine's animal print trench.

valentine spirit

no real updates for today, but enjoy this gorgeous image of flowers, with pretty candlelight, too. it puts me in a valentine's day spirit -- and how appropriate, it's the first of february, with the lovey-dovey day not too far away.
