little works of art

love in d.c.

cherry blossom season may long be over, but i'm still living in it through these adorable prints from art shark designs, made by local dc artist megan nolton. featured on dailycandy d.c., these little works of art just exude sweet charm and romance. i clicked through nolton's etsy shop as well, and it is full of lovely prints, notecards, and moleskin journals. go check it out! they are perfect little gifts of love.

here are more of nolton's equally cute designs:

waves of light

ruffles and waves were all the rage on the spring 09 runways and with the weather here in d.c. finally warming up, it’s time to start wearing these pretty, tousled looks. can’t wait to let go of those serious and perfectly-tailored pants and coats, those entirely too stuffy sweaters and stockings, and those prim and proper scarves and boots…which is why the ruffled details of spring and summer’s style are such a fun step away from winter’s straight-edged looks...and why these waves are just as welcome as the sun’s beautiful rays of light.

how adorable, easy, & different is this?

grandior

these vivid, sumptuous looks from dior are divine -- and thank goodness for some opulence -- getting tired of seeing all the minimalism as of late.

while a simplistic style can be just as striking, especially in real life, sometimes grandand over-the-top looks are what we need to give us a pop of energy and fun in fashion again.

the intense colors, intricate embroidery, exaggerated makeup, and extravagant jewelry of the show is all so exciting to see.

georgina chapman, town and country march 2009

i've always been slightly obsessed with the immense beauty and style of the stunning georgina chapman, co-designer of marchesa. chapman creates hollywood's most sought-after gowns (which i've written about both here and here on this blog).

this town and country editorial is one of the most stunning i've seen -- playing the role of an fairy tale princess in her own dream-like gowns, chapman's grandeur is unmatchable.

well-suited

great post from garance dore:

"Have you ever worn a pant-suit before? I have, just once, and I definitely should do so again. It gives you a funny sensation. You get this incredible confidence. It’s sexy, but a different sexy. Not innocent nor trashy, and not at all obvious. It’s just very… Femme

What’s crazy is just how much men love them. Saint Laurent knew what he was doing. I don’t know what exactly it frees up for them but put on a pant-suit and a pair of heels and you’ll have heads turning everywhere you go. I think its the classic charm matched with a timelessness, it leaves something to the imagination, something about the unexposed body leaves in its place nothing but pure allure.

Like a mystery you suddenly want to pierce through."

swapan & seema -- lakme india fashion week, autumn 2009

after browsing through most of the fall/winter 2009 collections presented at lakme india fashion week, i have to say that this was one of my favorites. from perfectly draped saris to sophisticated suits and lenghas, this collection was just so pretty. the rich & lovely shades of wine, the romantic lace details, and the sheer beauty of the fabrics were all very glamourous.
