filmfare awards 2011 -- lovely in white

as if you didn't already know, it's award season dahlings, and that's not just in hollywood. bollywood too, has started it's award shows, with the latest being the most popular one of all -- the filmfare awards.

among all the beautiful outfits seen at the show, i have to say the ladies wearing white stood out the most. these weren't your typical white outfits that usually do the job of radiating elegance and grace because of their simplicity -- these creations were very much embellished and heavily bedazzled, yet still came across as effortless and clean. how angelic do these ladies look?

katrina is just a vision. the beigey-pink sheer long top, over her stark white and full lengha is fabulous. and that dash of emerald green? wow. we all know from the past golden globes award show, that emerald green is the hot color of the moment, so it was a treat to see that in katrina's look as well. urmilla looks exquisite in her long anarkali gown with its high mandarin collor top and dash of spicy red at the bottom. and can't forget about those beeeeautiful drop down diamond earrings. loved them both.

ritu kumar's latest suit design

love this fun and funky creation from indian designer ritu kumar -- this ad was featured in vogue india's dec. 2010 issue, and it immediately caught my eye. it's a fun alternative to all the anarkalis we've been seeing everywhere -- anarkalis are long babydoll type dresses, with a huge circumference at the bottom (causing the dress to flare out a lot) and they are worn with tight leggings, called churdidars. although i still love anarkalis very, very much, something new and fresh is always much appreciated.

it's hard to tell exactly, but it looks like this outfit has a kurta top in baby pink, which is basically just a long tunic in a straight cut, worn overtop a white and black tie-dye skirt (which gives the flared-out dress aka anarkali effect). the model is seen wearing no churdidars underneath, but of course that is just for the editorial. in real life, baby pink chudidars to match the kurta top would look great. the yellow/golden chunni, or stole, adds another pop of color, but again for real life, i might choose a less distracting color -- or maybe no chunni at all. either way, it's something different and something new, and i hope to see more of it in indian fashion.

airport style

i dont know about you, but checking out folks at an airport is one of the best people watching experiences. there's so much waiting and waiting, so what else is there to do? i love seeing how people dress for flights --blending in comfort with fashion. some can manage to look so very chic. i think the best formula is comfortable leggings or skinny jeans, a good pair of flats (maybe ballet flats in the summer and tall flat boots in winter), tops and jackets that are easily layered, and of course a scarf -- so necessary. how great do our very own celebrities jessica alba, penelope cruz, and gisele bundchen look?

the best in grey - spring '11

unfortunately, i skipped my "the best in grey winter '10-'11" edition, but no worries because the promise and hope and flowers of spring can fix that mistake... :)

this past winter season had some really great grey pieces, though, from coats to scarves to boots. i was loving how grey suddenly became so luxe with added sparkle (sequins on sweaters), fun fabrics (flannel pumps) and fur galore (on vests, gloves, hats, scarves...and that's faux or real...whatever floated your boat).

but for now, we're moving onto spring, and i am of course loving some of the pieces i've seen so far. luxe grey is still going strong, but it is enhanced with some light and flowy pieces -- which add a breath of fresh air.

a day-dreaming spot

this is such a sweet corner -- and it's made all the more lovely with those flowers and that yummy diptyque candle. i'd love a wonderful little nook like this to work in!

georgina chapman - golden globes '11

"damn," is what i first thought when i saw georgina chapman's look for the 2011 golden globes. and that's not a "damn, she looks good" reaction (which is my usual response for her), that's a "damn, what happened?" reaction! designer to the stars, georgina chapman, of the ultra-glamorous brand marchesa, is really, really beautiful. she also designs amazing dresses, which look even more amazing when she wears them. i love her style, and even though sometimes it's a bit too girly/ruffley for me, it's always sharp and on point. so you can imagine my surprise when i saw her choice for the big awards show held this past sunday. i specially googled her to see her look (she is not usually covered by most fashion talk shows/blogs) hoping to see a vision of beauty, but i was let-down.

now, let me preface my critique by saying that she still looks a thousand times better than some of the other stars out there, but if she is in competition with herself, she lost big-time. the dress is basic, maybe a bit too basic for an awards show, and it's hanging waaay too low on her. basic black pumps and a black clutch finish it. so i must ask, where's her pizazz-y accessory? i love doing all black, but even i know that you have to add at least one element of spunk. and she usually does this the best. the only noteworthy thing about her look is that necklace. very nice and very edgy. but it wasn't enough.

gosh, i am being so passionate about ms. chapman! i suppose i just count on her for fashion-drooling purposes, and that didn't happen this time. here's hoping her next appearance will drop us dead.

happy 2011

a bit late, but nonethless, happy new year to you all. as usual, i've been slow with updates, but of course, as all of us bloggers do every year, i've also made a resolution to blog more often. we'll see how that pans out, but for now, i'd like to start off the new year with this stunning photograph from who else but the sartorialist. it's hard to pick a favorite from his line of work, but this one might be close. i love it! the all black with a touch of color, the biker chic gloves, the faux fur giving a touch of luxury, and of course that laid back easy breezy attitude is just wow.

happy 2011 again.
