yesterday, style.com posted marchesa’s spring 2009 collection, and as usual, it was a hit for me. as i mentioned in a previous post, marchesa collections are always grace and glamour combined. their spring 09 pieces were no different, except that they went above and beyond any expectation i had by offering magical, fairytale-like dresses that epitomized their glamour and grace aesthetic. rounding out the collection were short, mini dresses that packed just as much design detail as the evening gowns did. some of them had edgy, tough details, giving the romantic fabrics and draping a new look. the collection also featured an exqusitie one shouldered black lace gown - a personal favorite of mine.
everyone has been talking about lace since seeing it used in prada’s fall 2008 collection, and marchesa did its part in bringing lace back with this dress. it’s romantic yet tough and gothic yet princess-like. it perfectly represents the appeal of the yin & yang, and its staying power in the world of fashion.
many designers have featured this opposties attract concept in their collections at new york fashion week so far, but for now, back to marchesa and their exceptionally glamorous looks…
