kareena kapoor style in kurbaan

just got a chance to watch kurbaan, a fairly recent bollywood movie. i thought the movie was very well-done, but i also admired the styling within the film. kurbaan's leading actress, kareena kapoor, sports a unique east-meets-west look, with a plain cotton top, full crinkled ethnic skirt, chudidar pants (aka long leggings), and a scarf. it's a very different look than what we've seen in bollywood before, and i must say i'm loving it. it's very casual, ethnic, and pretty....as well as quite comfortable looking.

the best in grey - spring '11

unfortunately, i skipped my "the best in grey winter '10-'11" edition, but no worries because the promise and hope and flowers of spring can fix that mistake... :)

this past winter season had some really great grey pieces, though, from coats to scarves to boots. i was loving how grey suddenly became so luxe with added sparkle (sequins on sweaters), fun fabrics (flannel pumps) and fur galore (on vests, gloves, hats, scarves...and that's faux or real...whatever floated your boat).

but for now, we're moving onto spring, and i am of course loving some of the pieces i've seen so far. luxe grey is still going strong, but it is enhanced with some light and flowy pieces -- which add a breath of fresh air.

long skirt trend

i've been seeing this trend here and there, and i must say, i'm liking it a lot! i haven't seen long skirts done in the winter for a very long time, so it's a revival of sorts...but in a fun and modern way. it's most appealing to me when done monochromatically, as michael kors did in his fall 2010 rtw show. tone on tone with a cool, easy, hip-slung belt and you've got a look that's incredibly chic.
